Question 6- What have you learned about different technologies from this production process

When I first started the A-Level media course I had never used Apple software or a Mac Computer leaving me with many hurdles I needed to overcome to ensure that my Planning, Production and Evaluation were of a good standard.
Firstly, before starting media studies I have never used a program in which operates using an IOS operating system. This was a challenge for me as I have always used a Microsoft windows operating system when performing work or pleasure related activities on the computer. Now due to my schools media department using only Macs I quickly adjusted and tried to learn the new software quickly. When I first started using the software I quickly realised that the latest edition of IOS is of a very similar layout to windows 7.

The first piece software I used on the Mac Computer was Microsoft word. I had no problem navigating around this software as it was almost identical to the software from a windows computer however the actual use of the keyboard is more complicated as you need to press more than one button for the Computer to follow basic commands. On Windows 7 there is only one button to press.
When I go onto the researching part of the course I needed access to the internet. As a confident windows user I am use to using Internet explorer as a source of Secondary research. Sadly internet explorer is not a pre-installed application on the Mac Computers and I therefore was forced to use Apples version called Safari. Safari is very similar but different to Internet explorer so there was still a few new functions I needed to learn

Once I learned how to comfortably use safari, I began creating my blog. The Blogger website is Identical on both safari and on internet explorer. However I have never used it on internet either and therefore connoting I would have been a learning curve for me either way and on which ever internet program I was using. As a Samsung user I have had large amounts of practise using google chrome. Google chrome can be installed on IOS computers and Macs and in my case was a pre-installed application on provided devices so I had a choice in which software to use.

Secondly Before starting A Level media studies I had never used a Sony Handy cam or a Cannon EOS 60D DSLR and was very confused on how to use the complicated machinery it contained. When creating our Prelim task the HANDY CAM was first introduced to us. Our teacher very generously gave us a step by step guide on how to use the camera and we soon came to grips on how to use all of its many functions. This was very helpful to us as when using the Cannon EOS in our final production we were aware and of how to use a large amount of the similar functions and could quickly adjust to the new functions only found on the cannon.

When the sequence was recorded it was extracted onto the computer the exact same way. However the way in which I edited the sequence was much different on the two operating systems. When using the Microsoft OS I am confident using, I would always edit my videos with the pre-installed WINDOWS MOVIE Maker. When editing on the Macs I was forced to use a program called final cut pro, a program in which I have never used before so there was many challenges I had to overcome. Many of the features where new features I have never used before and new skills I needed to learn in order to perfect the program

As well as blogger there were many other websites I needed to use in which I had never used before.  The first was SCRIBD this is a website in which converts different application types into to embeddable links. I used these embeddable links numerous times during the media course, as this was my main source of conversion of the Microsoft documents in which needed to be posted on my blog. I also had to familiar myself with my self with all the different online presentation sites I had never used before such as PREZI and INFOGRAPHICS as these where some of the many applications I had to use in order to show I was capable of using other software’s instead of the typical standard Microsoft ones

The second piece of editing software I used on he Macs was iMovie, I used when editing the preliminary task, as this is an easy software to use and understand
